Students teach class on flow through fractured media

On November 20-21, 2010, Ben Scandella and Peter Kang taught classes on flow through fracturing media for middle and high school students as part of MIT's Splash! program. Motivated by the search for unconventional fossil fuel energy sources, students carried out experiments injecting air and dyed water into gelatine and reproduced the results in numerical simulations. Peter and Ben have taught similar classes on groundwater flow through heterogeneous material and plan to continue - look out for future offerings!
